MP’s call for newborn Muscular Dystrophy test
A group of MP’s is urging the government to allow testing of newborn babies for Muscular Dystrophy.
Newborn screening for Muscular Dystrophy is possible, although reliability is disputed, and would allow diagnosis at a much earlier stage than the method currently used. Average age of diagnosis is 5 years old by which time up to 30-40% of muscle mass could be lost.
